Review of CHoC Carlisle Treatment Centre written by a family member

I felt that my mother received the very best of care from the point at which I contacted Choc and spoke to the out of hours doctor through to the appointment with Dr Stahlschmidt within the Cumberland Infirmary. He gave her a clear explanation of her condition together with a plan of action and reassurance. I think in this instance it placed her firmly on a path to recovery and gave her a plan of how to manage her symptoms and future recurrence. Our thanks to Dr Stahlschmidt and the CHOC staff.

Following a bout sickness I suspected I had some form of food poising and visited the clinic on Wednesday 1st April. I had spoken to 1 very helpful doctor on the phone and visited another very helpful doctor at the clinic who gave me good advise to support the pain I was experiencing. On the Friday that followed I contacted the clinic again to try to receive my stool sample result. The doctor I spoke to was extremely helpful, Dr. Margerison I believe his name was. He said there were no results available from the lab but promised me he would chase the following day. To his word he rung me with the results without prompt on the Saturday and immediately prescribed anti-biotics. As I was out of town being looked after by my parents he even went to the trouble of faxing the prescription to the local pharmacy. The easy thing to do would have been to refer me to another walk-in-center where I would have to start the process again. Not only did this speed up my much needed recovery but no doubt prevented additional waiting time in another nhs clinic for other needy patients. A great example of avoiding the unnecessary red tape that we hear too much about. Keep up the good work and thank you for your help over what was no doubt a very busy weekend. Whilst I'm still unwell I can now continue my treatment at my regular surgery having had a real boost over the weekend. Please pass on my comments to all involved.

It was so easy to get an appointment and I was seen in the space of an hour which was good considering it is Good Friday. The Staff were lovely and I was treated quickly and efficiently. Well Done!

I was booked in for 6.30p.m. as soon as l got there l was told it was very busy and the time designated me would certainly over run. I was given an immediate apology and sat to wait. I could see there was a lot of people before me so decided to wait. After many apologies l was seen at 8.15 and the nurse was excellent. I went with a bad chest complaint which l realised required more than aspirin. It looked to me like a long night for the staff who were remained positive throughout. The nurse treated me as though l were her 1st patient yet l had already been there near 2 hours and it looked like another 2 awaited her. Granted from a selfish point of view l was expecting to be see within 30 mins yet as the night dragged on the staff were great and showed no sign of tension other than be apologetic about something (huge backlog) that was not their fault. I cheekily asked the nurse she must be on at least double time. She just smiled and said "no". She continued with a thoroughness that l did not expect, with a gentleness the pressures deemed too much to allow yet she was treating me as though l were the only one there? I cannot understand that type of commitment that dedication and concern for the individual but l experienced it that evening. What Choc could do is have more nurses available. Triage as patients come in with most serious going to docs. Have a rota where if it looks like a busy night have at least 4 extra to cover a 4 or 6 hour period. For goodness sake pay them at least double time... better still for that out of hours service 2.5 times. This would indicate in some way how much you really value them rather than just use this genuine commitment to people as taken for granted. Genuinelyvin awe of there treatment to me and all the rest but pretty appalled that their pay does not reflect this nightly heroism.

I was given an appointment very swiftly, and was seen on time. The doctor listen to my concerns and agreed he thought I had the same condition following a very thorough examination. We then discussed treatments in which in then gave me a prescription. Overall a very considerate and caring experience where I was taken care of as required.

You have to wait a long time for an appointment time then you get there for your appointment time and are always late going in whats the point in having times if they dont keep them?

I came to CHOC with my 8 year old son. The doctor we seen was very patronising. He even laughed at me when I said that I had not given my son an anti allergy medication even though I did not know he had an allergic reaction. he gave us very limited information about what had happened. I ended up taking my son to Brampton Medical Practise on the following Monday and got a much better service.

Found the service to be efficient and well run. The Doctor (Dr Kent) was lovely and reassured us as we were concerned about our son. As parents we found this extremely helpful and the speed and ability to seen so quickly helped enormously. Many Thanks
